high

I was using the air pump to inflate a tire on my vehicle and the device started smoking. I turned it off immediately and detached the air valve fitting from my tire. I could smell something burning or overheating, but nothing was warm to the touch. The smoke continued for about a minute after I turned it off.

Internal collapse hydraulic hose
low

Cat 416 Backhoe. Hydraulic oil tank is full. Pump is fine. All hydraulics working as normal. Backhoe boom suddenly becomes slow to raise and loses power. Can still raise it but need to have the stick rolled all the way in. Diesel mechanic friend said could be: 1) **trapped air** (I worked with it used the boom circuit and other hydraulic circuits for an hour but no change - is that enough to work out air? is there another way to work out trapped air? 2) **internal collapse of hydraulic hose** \- the boom is using hoses, not pipes so this is possible. Any suggestions on how to check for a collapse instead of just replacing hoses? 3) **probably not a spool valve gone bad because rare** Another mechanic suggested it could be a pressure relief valve gone bad. Not sure if that would only effect the boom? Any way to check. Thanks in advance for any comments. Always glad to NOT have to reinvent the wheel.

Engine
Best Flotation Steam Engine
low

I have never really been able to find much on this steam traction engine. It was designed by either Daniel Best or CL Best, son of Daniel Best, seen both listed. Daniel is who first merged with Holt, CL went on to his own company. Later CL Best also merged and I believe that is when the name changed to Caterpillar. CL was also the Chairman of the Board for Caterpillar from the mid 1920's until 1952. Always wondered since I was a kid how this thing actually did. Going by the picture its one of the largest I have ever seen. Would appreciate if anyone has information, please share. https://preview.redd.it/dots7uhnb94c1.jpg?width=564&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b79a67b83a55d98e04562ff4b9e3720b365a9c73

Issue at plantation - Help needed
low

We’re an agarwood (Aquilaria crassna) plantation in Sri Lanka. We have an issue with heortia vitessoides. The main issue is not just the caterpillar that’s eating the leaves and causing the plant to die, but, that the plantation is fully lit all night and so it attracts loads of moths in the night.. I’m hoping someone here can provide me A) A solution to get rid of the caterpillars at my plantation B) A way to avoid the moths.. Turning off more than 50% of the lights is not an option Yes yes.. I know monoculture is bad. We as a family aren't planning on doing monoculture again.
