Terms of service

The legal terms on which Machinetrail makes its VIN/PIN history reports available to you. Written to be plain-spoken, with explicit references to the EU Consumer Rights Directive where it matters.

For questions about these terms, contact legal@machinetrail.com. For data-protection questions, see our privacy policy.

01

Who these terms are with

These terms form a binding agreement between you and BSI OU, a private limited company registered in Estonia, operating the Machinetrail service at machinetrail.com (“Machinetrail”, “we”, “us”). By using the site or buying a report, you accept these terms.

02

The service

Machinetrail provides on-demand vehicle and machinery history reports keyed on VIN, PIN, or serial number. A single report costs EUR 19.99 and is delivered as a digital report immediately after successful payment.

Report content is compiled from public registries, regulator databases, and auction sources described in our methodology. Accuracy depends on the underlying source data; we do not warrant that registries are themselves complete, current, or error-free. A Machinetrail report is informational and does not replace a physical inspection or legal title check.

03

Your EU consumer rights

Where you purchase as a consumer resident in the European Union or EEA, the EU Consumer Rights Directive (Directive 2011/83/EU, “CRD”) grants you a 14-day right of withdrawal from a distance contract (CRD Article 9).

A Machinetrail report is “digital content not supplied on a tangible medium” within the meaning of CRD Article 16(m). Under that article, you lose the right of withdrawal once performance has begun with your prior express consent and your acknowledgement that you thereby lose the right of withdrawal. At the Stripe checkout you are asked to tick a box confirming both of these things before payment.

If you do not tick that box, the 14-day right of withdrawal under CRD Article 9 applies in full and we will refund the report on request. Our customer-friendly refund policy goes further: we offer no-questions-asked refunds within 14 days regardless of the Article 16(m) waiver.

04

Permitted use

You may use Machinetrail to:

  • Verify a tractor, excavator, or other machine before a private or dealer purchase.
  • Support fleet, financing, insurance, or audit due-diligence on a specific asset you have a lawful interest in.
  • Cite report content (with attribution) in a transaction record.
05

Prohibited use

You agree not to:

  • Use Machinetrail for stalking, harassment, or any unlawful investigation of a natural person.
  • Scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the site in bulk, whether manually or with automated tools.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to discover the source code of the service.
  • Resell, white-label, or redistribute reports without a written commercial agreement with us.
  • Interfere with the security, availability, or integrity of the service.
06

Accounts

No account is required to purchase a one-off report. The email address captured in the free preview is opt-in only and is used to deliver the preview result, occasional product updates (which you may unsubscribe from at any time), and any report you subsequently purchase.

07

Intellectual property

Site design, copy, brand, and the proprietary cross-source reconciliation logic described in our methodology are © 2026 BSI OU, all rights reserved.

Underlying registry, recall, and auction data is sourced from public databases; where a source requires attribution, we attribute it in the report itself or on the methodology page.

08

Limitation of liability

A Machinetrail report is provided for informational purposes only. It is not investment advice, legal advice, a title certificate, or a substitute for a physical inspection or formal valuation.

To the maximum extent permitted by Estonian and EU law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or in connection with a single report is limited to the amount you paid for that report (EUR 19.99). We exclude liability for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable mandatory consumer-protection law, including liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

09

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the service if we reasonably believe you are in material breach of these terms (for example, bulk scraping or using the service for harassment). Where the breach is capable of remedy, we will give notice and an opportunity to fix it before suspending.

10

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Estonia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved by the competent courts of Estonia, subject to the mandatory consumer-jurisdiction rules that may apply in your country of residence.

As an EU consumer you can also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.

11

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via an in-app banner. Continued use of the service after the change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Refunds and consumer rights

Our customer-friendly refund policy gives you 14 days, no-questions-asked, on every report.
