I got to run a challenger MT765D the other day doing some fallow work. I’m comparing it to my Deere 9100. Road ride: I was surprised how well the tracked unit roaded. It wasn’t much worse than any other tractor. I was expecting it to be pretty horrid. Power: both tractors have plenty of power for the implement I was pulling. The tracked tractor did struggle turning the machine on a sharper curve, which can be an issue sometimes for me. Field ride: honestly pretty disappointed with the tracked tractor. Everything I’ve ever heard was that tracked tractors ride amazing in the field. I think it was rougher than my 9100. Steering: this was honestly the worst attribute of the tracked tractor. The steering was so outrageously sensitive it was very difficult to maintain a heading. Even turning around on the field end only took a quarter turn of the wheel. I drove the machine less than two hours but I really noticed how much less taxing it was to drive when I switched back to my 9100. I’m glad I did it, but I don’t think I’m gonna get a tracked tractor when I trade. At least not a two track unit. And probably not a case Quadtrac either since dealer support is a bit far away where I’m at.
