Known Issues
I picked up an early 1050 JD at auction a while back. It ran but had symptoms of a blown head gasket. I took a chance anyways since it has 900 hours and is in otherwise good shape, stored indoors. Turns out the head is cracked and had evidence of a previous repair. Machine shop is saying it can't be repaired. I'm having trouble locating a new or good used cylinder head. At what point is it too much to fool with and I cut my losses? I have 9 acres and this tractor is perfect for my needs. Thoughts?
John Deere 1050 bleeder screw broke. I'm assuming it's in my fuel system now. Should I be worried? Also, if anyone has a link to the part I would be grateful.
My dad got himself a 1050 when I was a kid, the old man believed he broke the rear end pulling a stump so sold it to my dad for $500. Dad messed with it and figured out it just had a bad clutch, replaced it and has been using it ever since! This was the tractor I built many memories on over the years and always been my favorite to run around the farm. I've always wanted a 1050 like dad's but they're hard to find and pricey around here. Got lucky with this 850 at an auction and all in with taxes it came out to $2,019.60. Not quite like dad's but close enough! Planning to keep it and fix up, clean the paint new stickers and the like and maybe run it through a parade once in a while or something. Also if it runs my bush hog better than my Mahindra it'll end up being my main cutter for a while. Only thing wrong with it so far is a broken muffler, and the right side brake is locked up and needs a new seat. Otherwise she fired right up and drove onto my trailer no problem! Have you guys picked up anything that helps scratch the itch of childhood memories lately?
