Known Issues
When PTO switch is activated, the engine bogs down and stalls. Issue occurs regardless of whether the PTO clutch wire is connected. User suspects excessive amperage draw from undersized battery or potential wiring short.
User experienced two connecting rod failures on the same side with two different KT17 series 1 engines installed in a JD317 tractor, leading to engine replacement decision.
After throwing 2 rods on the same side on 2 different KT17 series 1 in my 317 I decided to pick up a P218G to put in. Got it for a good price and its obviously not from a JD318 or any other JD 300 series tractor, has anyone here every fitted one of these in? What should I start looking for right away to make this go more smoothly? Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance!
I need some help about a motor I have. It’s a John Deere 3 cylinder diesel, 3179. I did revive it, although it was missing lots of parts, but eventually made it happen. Got the injection pump rebuild at a shop and it works great. Now, the engine didn’t have injector lines. Two i found later at home, and one i had to get at a tractor dismantling company. The line in question is for injector #3, and on this pump, it’s seated towards the engine block so to speak. Now the problem I have is that i have to bleed the system each time i wanna start it. Like if i start it now and come back after half an hour, it’s fine. But after say, 2 hours, its full of air again. Used new steel washers on the stud that goes through the banjo fitting, got it tightened all the way and it still leaks. Other than that, it doesn’t seem to leak anywhere else. Is it losing prime due to that banjo leak? If so, how can i fix it? Thank you!
After a successful restoration on the John Deere garden tractor, I can finally use it around the property:) This year was fairly dry, so I only cut the path in the woods once. The John Deere cut amazingly well and didn't even bog down on some grass that was around 30 inches tall! Pretty awesome for 17hp Kohler engine! https://reddit.com/link/orhxuz/video/2o7vhydosed71/player
