Approximately four years ago, I purchased a new John Deere Garden Tractor, Model G110 for $4000.00. I needed a larger tractor because I have a large lawn, with a steep grade. Approximately 3 months after I purchased the mower, I experienced problems with it. After it runs for a while, it begins to backfire, looses power, and the engine dies. I have had the mower in the shop 10 times over the past

On July 24th I purchased a John Deere Z425 52 inch cut mower from Lowe's of Clinton NC! The mower was serviced by Quality Equipment Company, the local John Deere Sales Company! After 22 hours of use and 4 months of ownership, the mower started running on one cylinder! Keep in mind this is a 4000.00$ mower! I took it to Quality Equipment for what I thought was a warranty repair! 1 week later I rec

Dealer's shop failed to set up mower correctly. Shafter connecting deck to PTO is too short or deck is incorrectly linked to tractor. I found this myself but paid "mechanic" apparently wasn't trained to make sure PTO latch was actually latched. Did reach salesman but since dealership is closed for the weekend, I own a $14000 shop decoration that is hanging from my chain hoist. Lucky for dealer tha

Looking for Tractor capable of Flail Mower
low

I'm in the market for a used tractor (mostly grass cutting, loader, box blade work) and am interested in knowing how old I need to go to find a tractor that does require a trip to a repair shop just to read codes. Also, because I plan to do a lot of loader work, I'd prefer a hydrostatic in John Deere parlance, but doesn't necessarily have to be JD. Grew up on a green machine farm and my uncle sold them, so just always been happy running one. Looking for size, year, and brand recommendations. I left the farm and had a white collar career, so I'm pretty out of touch with what's out there. I've been looking at John Deere 3032e, but I think that's a little light for a 6' flail mower and maybe I should be looking at a 4000 series. The 3032e is absolutely heavy enough for everything else I do, though. I'm on 10 acres of Northern California grass/weeds, and some rocks I can mostly avoid but probably not entirely. Land is currently cut by someone with a 72" JD flail and it does a beautiful job while rotaries I've rented seem to just trample the grass for a while before it pops back up.

Tractor/backhoe recommendation
low

Helping a friend plan for his first-ever tractor purchase and I'm hoping for some suggestions. I grew up in small ag (40 dairy cows, 300 acres, working on other farms besides) so he brought me into his brainstorm process. It's been years since I left the farming world so I'm a bit rusty. He's currently on a small plot of a couple acres just outside of town, with the plan to move VERY rural in the next 5-8 years. The guy can fix anything he touches, be it woodworking, fabricating, plumbing, electrical, or computer programming. Honestly, he's a bit of a wizard and likes to fix things. The goal is to get something that's not absolutely absurdly huge for his couple acres of pine & meadow where he currently resides, but will be big enough to haul some firewood, brush-hot some meadows, keep a big driveway devoid of snow, and dig the foundation to a house. An old runner that could use some tinkering seems like the way to go. I'm thinking 30-50 hp range, loader (quick-attach if possible), 530 PTO and ability to handle a backhoe. Ideally remotes for front end loader + 1more set, or the ability to easily set up as such. Bonus points if it has direct mount backhoe options as opposed to 3 pt hitch. Do we think it's is doable for under $10k? Something like a Ford 4000, JD 2020, IH 544 with a loader, then throw a backhoe on it? Also not ruling out smaller rigs (newer Kubota compact 30hp rigs are kinda fun) but prefer self-serviceability over new-fangled hydrostatic and electronics. I'd appreciate any insights, suggestions on what to look for. If you're in central OR and have something that might fit the bill, he/we might come scope it out. Thanks!
