John Deere 850

On certain side-by-side vehicles, the original (factory-installed) engine oil filter may have been manufactured incorrectly and could leak. Oil leaking or spraying onto a hot engine or exhaust component could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the engine oil filter.

On certain side-by-side ATVs, the fuel line connectors in the engine compartment may not have been properly connected. If the connectors were to separate, the engine would stall and fuel would be sprayed in the engine compartment. Fuel could also continue to be sprayed while attempts are made at re-starting the engine. Fuel leakage could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel line connectors.

Cooling system had extensive hose leaks causing overheating and lack of system pressure. Coolant overflow bottle mount was removed and system was previously filled with tap water for extended period.

Head gasket failure evidenced by bubbling in coolant overflow tank, smoke from exhaust, high oil consumption, and oil buildup around head. Coolant leaking into combustion chamber or oil system.

Coolant leaking from all hoses in the cooling system, requiring replacement. System had low pressure due to missing coolant reservoir bracket and broken overflow bottle mount.

An area dealer brought several of these defective tractors to an auction in Lebanon, WI. I tested it as much as I could before spending the $850.00 for this mower with 400hrs. Two mows later on a 1-acre lot, the mower stops rolling after 15minutes. After calls to the organizers of the auction telling them of this, they are not interested in looking up who the dealer was to help me contact them. (T

Tractor produces excessive non-black smoke from exhaust, suspected from coolant and/or oil entering combustion chamber. Associated with louder than normal ticking noise.
